    From the John A. Biles notes:
    Alexander P. Biles (1783-1855), the sixth son of Henry Biles, was born in Middle Smithfield, Northampton County (now Monroe Co., near the Delaware River), Pennsylvania. He was educated to be a printer, learning the trade from his uncle Alexander Patterson, an editor in Easton, PA. In addition to being a printer, Alexander, was also a teacher and a farmer. In 1801, he married Rosannah Place, daughter of James and Phoebe Winans Place.
    Alexander Biles went "way west" to the Wyoming County area. The first time was with his brother, John, when Alexander was twelve years old. They brought a load of salt tot heir father's business and returned to their home in Middle Smithfield with a load of salt-cured fish. The second trip was with his brother, Robert. Alexander and Robert married sisters, Rosannah and Rebecca Place. In 1806 the young families settled near Meshoppen PA. They each had a daughter born in 1807 and named her Phoebe. About two years later, 1808, Alexander returned to Middle Smithfield, where all but two of his children were born. Robert died in 1812, leaving five children.
    In 1825 Alexander returned with his family to the Wyalusing area. They lived on Lime Hill for three months, then moved to Asylum as tenants of Bartholomew LaPorte in one of the original log homes built by the French. Their youngest daughter, Betsey, was born on April 23, 1826 in Asylum. Alexander purchased 800 acres of land situated high on a bluff above the east side of the Susquehanna River, cleared it and prepared the lumber for building. During Christmas week of the year 1829, Alexander moved his family to Homet's Ferry and began building his own home. In 1831 they moved into their new home which served the family until 1908. Alexander farmed the land until his death in 1855.
