    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Birth: 06 Sep 1693, Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA

    Notes:

    Name:
The line of Abraham Ambler is hazy due perhaps to the destruction many years ago of valuable Westchester County land records, and of the records of North Castle and Pound Ridge.

No trace of Abraham Ambler is found after the deed of 4 Dec., 1750, but he was dead by 25 Nov., 1771, as is shown by a deed given by his son Samuel Ambler on that date. Abigail Ambler appears on first List of Bedford Congregational Church, 1737-43.

Abraham married Abigail CLASON on 04 Apr 1717 in Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA. Abigail (daughter of Samuel CLAWSON and Hannah DUNHAM) was born about 1697. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    Name:
Perhaps named after his mother's only brother Jonathan Clawson. he is indicated but not proved a son of Abraham Ambler. First appears on the muster roll of men raised in Westchester County for Capt. James Holmes's company of Bedford men when he enlisted 21 mar., 1759, age 29, born in Connecticut, enlisted from Capt. Lockwood's company of Bedford men. these troops proceeded to Oswego, N.Y., where they were in the fighting. Appears also on roll of Capt. William Gilchrist's company, 13 May, 1760, age 30, stature six feet one inch. In 1761 was in Capt. Thomas Hobby's Greenwich company of the 2d Conn. regiment. On 8 April, 1762 age 33, he enlisted in Capt. Jonathan Haight's Westchester company. Jonathan Ambler was a witness to the will of David Brundage of North Castle, Westchester co., on 12 May, 1767. Census of 1790 credits him to Bedford with household of three females. Of Bedford in census of 1800, aged over 45, with oe female over 45. Does not appear in the land or probate records of Westchester or of Stamford. It appears possible that Effalanar (Eleanor?) Ambler, who witnessed will of Esther Dibble of Middle Patent, Westchester Co., 17 Feb., 1796, may have been his wife or daughter. This will was probated 16 Jan., 1801, when "Effalanar Brown formerly Effalanar Ambler" appeared to swear to her mark.
