  1. 1.  Joseph Crane SEARS was born on 18 Dec 1792 in Ridgefield, Connecticut; died on 29 May 1857 in Millplain, Connecticut.

    Name:
    Joseph Sears lived in South East, New York, till 1827-8, when he removed to his father's place, remaining there till 1836, when he purchased the farm of his brother James in Millplain, Connecticut.

    The house that Herman R. Sears was born in, was also the birthplace of George Belden Sears.

    The old boundary line between Connecticut and New York passed through the house, and the room they were born in was on the New York Side. By a later survey the whole house is in Connecticut.

    Mr. Sears was a public-spirited man, and interested in all improvements.

    He was Rep. to State Leg. in 1835-6 and 1842.

    He was greatly beloved by all his neighbors, especially the young, was an active church member, often on committees, and in 1829 sent to the Presbytery.

    Joseph married Patty M. BARNUM on 26 Oct 1814. Patty was born on 9 Dec 1793 in South East, New York; died on 14 Nov 1815 in South East, New York; was buried in Old Cemetery, Milltown, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Joseph married Mary Ann BRUSH on 22 Feb 1818. Mary (daughter of John BRUSH and Mary PLATT) was born on 3 Jan 1796; died on 13 Dec 1872. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
