    Safe Hurled 300 Feet

The safe at the store of August Fluttrow, aged 73, who lost his life in the storm, was hurled fully 300 feet from where the store stood. So terrific was the effect of the churning mass of iron, steel and wooden debris on the strong-box, that a number of deep cuts were gashed into the metal. The cash register from the Fluttrow store was almost twisted in two.

Fluttrow's body was hurled against the remains of a large tree, and was then crushed under a large amount of debris. Besides being generally mangled and mutilated, the body suffered a fracture of the skull and a shattered right leg.
