Donald G. "Dooley" Slawson, 80, Sykesville died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at DRMC after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 28, 1929, in Sykesville, a son of the late James and Sadie (Fike) Slawson.
He was married to Doreen (Tollini) Slawson, who survives.
Mr. Slawson was a graduate of Sykesville Area High School, and served in the Korean conflict as a corporal with the Army Corps of Engineers.
He was a lifetime Member of the Sykesville American Legion and Sykesville Firemen's group.
In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two sons, Dennis Slawson and Donald "Red" Slawson and wife Margaret, all of Sykesville; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Megan and Kathryn.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Gruda and Patricia Slawson; and four brothers, Harry, Willard, Eugene and James Slawson.
The Jefferson County Veterans' Honor Guard will accord honors at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in the ABVM Catholic Church Cemetery in Sykesville.
