1. | Matthew RANSOM was born about 1661 in Sandwich, Massachusetts; died before 1690 in Saybrook, Middlesex Co., Connecticut. Notes:
Excerpt from "New England Families Genealogical and Memorial: Thrid Series, Vo. IV" :Matthew was a tanner by trade, and settled in Saybrook, Connecticut, where he received 4 acres of land, in consideration of settling there to carry on his occupation. This was in what was known as the "Oyster River Quarter," now Westbrook, Connecticut. The Saybrook records contain no further mention of him except to record one child, and it is presumed that he died in early life.

It has been brought to my attention though an e-mail from Kirk Ransom, dtd 2-28-2012, that Matthew Ransom is not the son of Robert Ransom of Plymouth MA. This has been determined by DNA testing. So for this reason, I have removed Matthew as being the son of Robert.
Matthew married Hannah JONES on 07 Mar 1682/3 in Saybrook, Middlesex, Connecticut. Hannah was born in 1660. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Excerpt from "New England Families Genealogical and Memorial: Third Series, Vol. IV": Joseph was a husbandman, residing in Lyme, Connecticut. He was a captain of Connecticut troops in the expedition against Quebec under General Wolfe, and fell on the Plains of Abraham. Two of his sons also served in the colonial army in his company. He sold the lands granted to his father in Saybrook, April 15, 1715.
