    His will dated Nov. 15, 1671, proved April 9, 1672. "His wife Elizabeth and son John, executors of his will, the former till John is twenty-one years old, then he alone." "1st, to John, who has that meadow which I bought of Philip Lewis, and also the homestead. 2d, to Jacob half the land at Hog-pen Plain I bought of Seaborn Cotton. 3d, to Peter who has half of that land given him, being in the Hog-pen Plain, which is in the edge of Kingston, NH." House, barn and house-lot were appraised at L150.

    John Garland came to Hampton before 1653, his name being on the tax list at that date, and "settled in the Eastern part of the town, where some of his descendants of every generation since have lived, on the spot where, till within a few years, stood the house occupied by the bothers David and jonathan Garland, both now deceased. The present Garland house, in the same enclosure, is a little farther east."

    In 1650 John Garland, with others from Hampton, were forbidden from cutting any timber in Exeter, NY., but he had a lot granted him if he stay one year in the town of Exeter. His name appears on the books of Exeter as one of the first in Aug. 26, 1650. He owned land in Hampton, bounded by G. Fifield (now owned by E. A. Knowles), in 1666. In 1663 he sold one share in the cow common to Robert Smith, the original right to which belonged to Thomas Chase.

    Name:
    Farmer....He lived at first in Newbury, Mass.; in 1683, removed to Hampton, NH.; took the oath of allegiance in Hampton, in 1678. He was one of eight persons sent from Hampton, in 1676 to the defence of Marlborough, Mass. He, with others, in 1694, petitioned for township of Kingston, NH, and in 1717, for Weare, NH. Was one of the proprietors of Chester, NH, and had the following lots in that town allotted to him; No. 30 of H.L., No. 35 Add., No. 83 of H., No. 34 of 2 P.2 D., No. 62 of 3d D., No. 74 of 4th D., No. 127 of 5th D., No. 57 of 6th D. march 16, 1728 he deeds to his son Jacob, Jr., three-fourths of a saw mill on Taylor's river in Hampton, and Jan. 8, 1729-30, one-eighth of same saw mill to Joseph Sanborn. Aug. 14, 1679, he sells to Abraham Green 50 acres of land, the "Cotton" lot, in Hampton. 1724-5 he deeds to Daniel Emery "one-half of my rights in the Township of Chester." Aug. 14, 1679, he sells to Abraham Green "50 acres of land that Mr. Cotton sold to my father, John Garland, deceased. Jacob is said to have had eleven children born in Hampton, but there is no account of but nine born in Hampton, and two born in Newbury, Mass." (J. Dow)

    Jacob married Rebecca SEARS on 17 Jun 1682. Rebecca (daughter of Thomas SEERS/SEARS and Mary HILTON) was born on 5 Nov 1661; was christened on 7 Mar 1706/7. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
