At a meeting of the Second Church of Swansea, January 31, 1788, it was voted to permit the brothers and sisters of Dartmouth to organize a Church with Brother John Mason as Elder and he was ordained March 26, 1788. How long he served as Pastor of the church at Dartmouth does not appear but he became pastor of the Second Church of Swansea and so continued until his death. he served the town in various capacities and was probably the John Mason who was chosen Delegate to the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention held in Cambridge in 1779.
