  • Name John ROBBINS  [1, 2, 3, 4, 5
    • Esq. and Capt. John, b. 1716; he was, according to the well-preserved traditions of the Town and of his descendants, THE historic personage of the Robbins line. Tall, and well proportioned in body, possessed of great strength and untiring energy, he was remarkable among his contemporaries for his industry, impulsiveness of action and alertness of mind, which qualities, backed as they were by great wealth for those days, gave him a dominating influence in the community in which he lived, as well as in the other portions of the State. Brought up in the rigid school of Puritan doctrines and manner of life, his iron will governed his domestic affairs with a sternness which permitted of no infractions either of economy, or relaxation if industry. He spared not the rod, as even his grandchildren remembered to their latest days. His industry was remarkable and he considered amusements to be a waste of valuable time and a menace to good morals.
