      Chauncey was the younger of two children born to Raymond Eugene Smith and Eleanor Martin Smith. He was raised at 60 William Street at Catskill where his father was the owner and operator of a coal yard. Chauncey married to Marteena Slauson on 20 March 1932 at Catskill. They made their home at 15 Liberty Street at Catskill where he was the manager of a retail coal yard. Chauncey enlisted and served with the New York Guard for two years with Company C, 46th Infantry. His wife died in 1954 and Chauncey married next to Virginia F. Pflegl on 24 October 1958 at Catskill. They made their home first at his home on Liberty Street. By 1962, they resided at Locust Park at Catskill. His last known residence was at Zephyrhills, Florida. Chauncey and Marteena were the parents of three children; two daughters and a son including Carol Adelaide Smith. Chauncey and Virginia were the parents of two sons.
