      Marteena was the younger of two daughters born to Frederick Miller Slauson and Edith Lynn Duncan Slauson. She was raised at Catskill where her father was the proprietor of a meat market. Marteena was a school superintendent secretary when she married to Chauncey Lewis Smith on 20 March 1932 at Catskill. They made their home at 15 Liberty Street at Catskill where her husband was a manager at his family?s retail coal yard. Marteena and Chauncey were the parents of three children; two daughters and one son, including Carol Adelaide Smith who died in 2002.
