Daniel WHITNEY [1] |
- Daniel Whitney was a cooper. They lived, during the whole of their married life, about two miles west of the village of Stamford, in a house occupied by Widow John Selleck in 1868. He was a soldier of the Revolution, and enjoyed a pension,as did his wife after his death for his services. He died, on Sunday morning, 6 Aug. 1826, aged 72 years, 3 months and 2 days. His widow, who was a remarkably vigorous woman, and able, when over eighty years old, to walk from Stamford Landing, two and a half miles, to her home, died in Stamford, 24 Feb. 1849, aged 87 years, 10 months and 24 days; and was buried near her husband, in a graveyard south of the village, near the river and the railway, where their gravestones may still be found, by one willing to encounter the weeds and mosquitoes. She was a communicant in the Episc. Church. [1]
