- Mr. Thurston lived in Fitchburg till after the birth of his son Enoch, but probably very soon after that he moved to Windsor, Vt., where he remained till about 1787, when he removed to Scipio, Cayuga Co., New York. Here his house and its contents, including his family records, were burned. In 1806 he purchased 700 acres of land of the Holland Co. in Aurora, New York, whither he migrated with two ox teams, erected a log house, and commenced life in what was then a dense forest, except about ten acres which had been cultivated by thew Indians. Here they experienced al the hardships of pioneer life. Sometime after the death of his wife he took a horse-back journey to Massachusetts to visit his mother, but she was not living. He was a deacon in the Baptist church in Scipio, but afterward changed his connection to the Universalist church inAurora. He was a man of "good disposition and regular habits." he served in the revolutionary war, and as a substitute for his son Thomas in the war of 1812, and was at the burning of buffalo, New York. His large farm was divided between his sons, Enoch giving $400 for his choice. he was a staunch Whig in politics. He spent the last days of his life with his son Thomas, and with him moved to Leoni, Jackson Co., Mich., P.O., Grass Lake. [1]
