Name |
John SLOCUM [1] |
- He purchased land in Warwick, Rhode Island, of James Green 5 January, 1741-2 and sold the same to Francis Knight 15 march, 1748, after which he resided in North Kingstown. In April, 1777, he, with three neighbors, "having the welfare of their country at heart, and willing to defend it with their lives, also believing that the enemy (the British) were about to make an attack," raised a company "to guard the town of Updike's Newtown," in North Kingstown, R.I. They petitioned the General Assembly and were "granted a corporation as a distinct military company, not to exceed sixty-four men, for special protection, to be called the newton Rangers." His will was proved in North Kingstown 13 December, 1784. [1]
