    • Eldest of six children of Abraham and Martha (Bulkeley) Mellowes, nephew of the wife of Atherton Hough, nephew of Rev. Peter Bulkeley, and first cousin of Edward Bulkeley and Thomas Bulkley. Oliver's younger brother, Edward Mellowes, settled in Charlestown. Abraham Mellows left a will that was delivered to the Suffolk court on 4 June 1639, but does not survive. In September 1638 shortly before he died, the General Court granted Abraham Mellows 200 acres of land. this was laid out to "the heir or assign" of Abraham in June 1641 (which was after the death of his son Oliver), at which time his son Edward Mellowes petitioned as the "heir or assign" for an additional 300 acres to total the 500 owed his father for his contribution of L50 to the common stock of the Massachusetts Bay Company.

      Oliver Mellowes of Boston and his wife were admitted to Boston church on 20 July 1634. Oliver was a follower of the Antinomian Mrs. Anne Hutchinson and one of the men disarmed by the General Court in 1637 for this association, which probably influenced their removal to Braintree. However, Elizabeth retained her membership in the Boston church, and on 25 July 1641, "Mrs. Elizabeth Makepeace, lately called Mrs. Elizabeth Mellowes, but now ye wife of Mr. makepeace of Corchester, was ganted ltr of Recommendation (to Dorchester).
