---Oliver H. Godfrey of Ceresco, died Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.C. Phelps, in Battle Creek, of dropsy. Mr. Godfrey was sixty-eight years of age, having been born in Batavia, N.Y., and coming to Michigan in the early forties, settling in Marshall. He leaves a brother, James Godfrey of Pontiac, and sisters, Mrs. E.A. Allen and Mrs. E.T. Vary of Battle Creek, as well as a son, William in Ceresco, and his daughter, Mrs. Phelps. The funeral will be held at the Ceresco Baptist church Sunday morning.

---Oliver W. Godfrey, was born at Elba, Genesee County, York state Sept. 3, 1838. He was the oldest son of David and Isabelle Godfrey. They moved to Michigan Dec. 1, 1853 and settled on a farm one mile east of Ceresco where he grew up to manhood. He married E. Miranda Neubre March 2, 1861 and bought a farm in Emmett three miles west of the village. To them were born two children who survive him, Mrs. Willard Phelps of Battle Creek and William Godfrey of Ceresco. He also leaves one brother James Godfrey of Lansing; Mrs. E.P. Vary and Mrs. Edwin Allen both of both of Battle Creek. His wife died Nov. 13, 1897 since which he has lived most of the time in the village.
---He died on Thursday Aug. 2nd at his daughter's in Battle Creek. The remains were brought here and the funeral was held in the Baptist church Sunday at 10:00, Rev. Mr. Carey conducting the service at the church.
---He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge here and also of the Encampment of Battle Creek. His brother Odd Fellows from here and Battle Creek took charge and accompanied the remains to Oakridge cemetery where they were laid to rest in the family lot, after the beautiful service rendered at the grave by the Odd Fellows.
---Mr. Godfrey was a faithful attendant at church and Sunday school for forty years. He was a kind father, a good neighbor and strictly honest in all his dealings. He will be long remembered by a host of friends and neighbors with whom he came in touch for over fifty years.
