- By 1780 he removed to Vermont where he appears on Rev. rolls. he settled first at Brandon but by 1801 removed to huntington, Chittenden Co., Vermont. he built the first flour mill in Brandon and was town clerk in 1787.
His pension papers dated 25 June 1833, give the following interesting rec. of Rev. service:
Six months in 1775 in Capt. matthew Mead's company in Col. Waterbury's 5th Regiment of the Conn. Line. Ten months in 175 and 1776 in Capt. Chapman's company under Gen. Wooster. Six months in 1778 inCapt. David Dan's company of Col. Thomas Thomas's N.Y. Regiment. he spent the year 1779 in Capt. Sacketts company of Col. Graham's N.Y. Regiment and 13 months in 1779 and 1780 under Capt, Rider. the war records of New York, Connecticut and Vermont show that he served with troops of all three states. His Connecticut service is supported, his service in Col orris Graham's 6th Regiment of Dutchess Co. militia is given and in addition he appears on a list dated 27 Sept., 1780 entitled "American Prisoners proposed to be exchanged" as James Ambler of Dimon's militia (a Vt. organization). Vermont pay rolls show that he was called out on 20 Oct. 1781 as a private in Capt. Orange Train's company in Col. Lee's Regiment. His pension papers show that he was at Isle Aux Noix and St. John's. he reenlisted at Montreal in Nov. 1775 and served at Quebec, retiring to Ticonderoga in May 1776. He reenlisted with the New York troops and fought at White Plains. he served in Bedford in the autumn of 1778. In 1779 he volunteered to go on a whale boat commanded by Col. Lyman to take Judge Jones to be exchanged for Gen. Sullivan. On this expedition he and six others were taken prisoners and confined in N.Y. City for thirteen months. [1]
