- He was shot by the British in a skirmish at Leete's Island. His tombstone bears the following inscription: "In Memory of Mr. Simeon Leete who was shot by the enemy at Leetes Island the 18th and died the 19th day of June 1781, in the 29th year of his age.
In 1802 his family removed to Herkimer Co., and in 1817 to Chautauqua Co., New York, and later to Erie Co., Pennsylvania. [1]
