- He and his wife were buried in Clarke Burial Ground, on bank of Pawcatuck River, 3 1/2 miles east of Westerly, near what is now called the Hopkinton Seventh Day Baptist Burial Ground. On 29th September, 1788, Paul Clake of Newport, R.I., deeded to Benjamin Clarke, of Stonington, Conn., certain Connecticut land. He enlisted on 27th November, 1776, in Capt. Humphreys' Co. of R.I. Miltia in the battalion commanded by Col. Israel Angel, and became Corporal. He served six years six months and eighteen days, received two honorary badges and was promoted to Captain in 1782. [1]
