- Excerpt from "Philip Delano of the Fortune 1621": Rhoda (Thomas) Smith died during the small pox epidemic along with her stepson John Smith and step-daughter Sarah (Smith) Redding. They are all buried on the farm of John Smith, where a smallpox cemetery was made in Middleboro. The epidemic occured in the midst of the Rev. War when there were so few to take care of the many who were ill.
