- After their marriage, William and Mary went to Pawlings, Dutchess Co., NY, to live. Later, they removed to the Wyoming Valley, Penn., locating on what was known as Searle Flats, across the river from Wyoming, Penn. On the night of the massacre, July 3, 1778, they made their way to the Wilkes-Barre Fort, and with about one hundred men, women and children, started for the Delaware River, and finally found their way back to their old home in Dutchess Co., NY. In 1788, they were back again living on the farm on Searle Flats. After ten years, they removed to New Jersey, and later to Goshen, NY, where both died. [1]
