Name |
Aaron STARK [1, 2] |
- Aaron and his wife removed to the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania following their marriage about 1772, and were living there at the time of the Wyoming Massacre which occurred July 3, 1778. His wife urged him to run to his old home in Dutchess County, NY, to escape the fury of the savages, but rather he chose to stay and take his chance. The family fled to the fort and the father went forth to defend his loved ones from the cruel foe. After the troops broke and ran, Aaron and his son of the same name also fled and hid themselves in the driftwood along the river. The father was discovered by the savages and taken out and cruelly murdered before the eyes of his son. After the massacre, his widow eventually found her way back to Dutchess County, NY, taking her five children with her. Aaron Stark's name appears on the Wyoming monument as a victim of that day's tragedy. [1]
