    • Ancestry.com - Comments added by Nancy Shattuck on 11 Jul 2007: Monroe Shattuck died in Leavenworth, Kansas on 14 October 1902. He died and was buried on the same day, and it is presumed that he had been living at the Disabled Veterans Hospital in Leavenworth prior to his death. He had served in the Mexican War, Co. B, 2nd Illinois Infantry, 1847-1848. He was buried at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Monroe had one surviving brother, Scott Winfield Shattuck who had been living in Linn Co., Kansas and it is also presumed that Monroe visited Scott towards the end of his life. They had gold mined together near Marysville, yuba Co., California in the early 1850's. Monroe migrated to Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Co., CA by 1853 and Scott had returned to the family in Waukon, Iowa. According to the Santa Cruz Sentinel, Sallie and Charles Knapp married in San Francisco, but both were residents of Pajaro, which is very close to Watsonville. Sallie spelled her name differently than her aunt, Sally Ann Kidder who married Willima Pitt Stone. She specifically mentioned this in her land records for Kern Co., California. Note: William Pitt Stone was the son of Phylinda Shattuck and John Stone. Phylinda Shattuck was the sister of George Clinton Shattuck, who was also the father of Monroe Shattuck. It is believed that the Shattucks and the Kidders knew each other in Seneca Co., as both families had lived there at the same time. The Shattucks had migrated to Romulus, Seneca Co., New York in 1795 from Vermont. Nancy A. Shattuck Great-great-granddaughter of George Clinton Shattuck and Anne Bronson.
