- William Johnston was First Sergeant at muster of the reorganized Company H, 78th Pennsylvania Infantry; enlisted 9 Feb 1865, muster in 23 Feb, reported to unit 4 Apr, served several months in occupation duty, and muster out 11 Sep 1865 at Nashville. Following the war he became a dairy farmer in Woodinville, was an early member of Stevens Post 1 GAR at Seattle, and was a forming member of Bothell Post 108 at Bothell. His dates are Sep 1844? or 1846? to 3 Feb 1919, and he died at Bothell. His widow, Sarah Jane Bittinger, was the sister of Adam John Bittinger buried elsewhere in the Bothell Cemetery.
JOHNSTON--At Bothell, Wash., February 3, 1919, WILLIAM JOHNSTON, aged 73 years, beloved husband of Sarah J. Johnston. Member of G.A.R. John Bothell Post. Enlisted with Company H, Seventy-eighth Pennsylvania infantry.
Funeral services Wednesday, February 5, at 2 p.m. from the residence in Bothell, in charge of Home Undertaking Company, Ninth avenue and Union street.
