    • Excerpt from "The Story of the Gilmans and a Gilman Genealogy....": Jeremiah, who in 1730, with his brother Andrew and 2 other men were captured at Pickpocket Mill in Exeter. One of the men was burned at the stake and the brothers were separated. Andrew escaped and returned home, thinking that Jeremiah had been killed. It was said that Jeremiah made his way to the mouth of the Connecticut River and that his descendants live near New Haven and Hartford and in NY State. No records have been found which substantiate this story."
