- John Fancher, born in Poundridge, NY, 4 Sep 1756, baptised in the Stamford, Conn., Congregational Church 10 Oct. 1756 and died in Poundridge 17 Feb 1838, having had a long, honorable and exciting career in the forces of the revolution. he married, in South Salem, NY, 21 May 1778 SUSANNA MUNROW, daughter of James Munrow, born 13 Jan. 1755 and died in Poundridge 20 Sept 1837.
John Fancher was a farmer. He served nearly two and a half years in the Revolution as an enlisted private. In 1775 he was under Capt. Jonathan Platt, Col. James Holmes, Fourth regiment Continental Line, Schuyler Brigade, for nine months the rendezvous being Ticonderoga. In 1776 he was under Capt. Abijah Gilbert, Col. Thomas thomas' Second Regiment of Westchester Co. Militia for eight months to build Fort Independence. In 1777, under Capt. Zephaniah Mills to keep the prison house at Bedford and to range lines to the White Plains for four months. In 1778 he was under Capt. Samuel Delivan of the Rangers for three or four months. In 1781 he was under Capt. Thomas hunt, Col. Frederick Weissenfel's Regiment of Levees for four months, with rendezvous at Saratoga. john Fancher received a pension in 1832. (Pension Records, Washington, DC) It is a family tradition that John Fancher was one of the escort to march Burgoyne's army to General Washington's headquarters. [1]
