    Notes 
    • It was believed that Richard died from poison. He was buried in Canterbury "before the altar of St. Edward; his body buried (1) Tonbridge, (2) July 28 1262 Tewkesbury "at this father's right hand", Earl of Gloucester. He was the sixth Earl of Hertford and second Earl of Gloucester, at his father's death was in his minority and his wardship was granted to Hebert de Burgh, Earl of Kent, whose daughter Margaret he afterwards married and whereat Henry III was displeased; they were divorced and he then married Maud, daughter of John Earl of Lincoln. He was his brother William wre poisoned by Waltr de Scotenay, the latter dying but the Earl recovered; it is assumed, however, that he at last died of poison given him at the table of Peter de Savoy, the Queen's uncle.
