Joel FLETCHER [1] |
- Joel b. in Westford, Mass., June 23, 1743; rem. to Templeton, Mass.; m. Ruth Gould, May 31, 1764; capt. of a militia company; in the battle of Bunker Hill; farmer. He caused to be built the only Baptist meeting-house in Templeton, and was deacon of the church many years, - up to the time of his death. He also gave land for a cemetery and for a schoolhouse, on what is called "Baptist Common." The schoolhouse still remains; the church has been rem. to Baldwinsville. He also built a dwelling-house on "Baptist Common," which is now occupied by his granddaughter, Mrs.Maynard. A gravestone in the cemetery records his death, Apr. 16, 1823, and that of Ruth, Oct. 3, 817, age 79. [1]
