  	Shackelton, Horace E., Jr Horace (Ace) E. Shackelton, Jr., 87 died at home September 14, 2015 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Ace was born August 5, 1928 in Glen Ridge, NJ to Horace E. Shackelton, Sr. and Mary Eastman Moore. After his mother's death in 1937 the family including sister, Mary moved to Ithaca, NY where Ace graduated from Ithaca High School in 1948. He attended college for 3 years and then was employed by Monroe Babcock learning the poultry/egg production business. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955. He partnered from 1956-1960 with William I. Myers, Dean of Cornell Agriculture School, in the raising of chickens and egg production, selling eggs to GLF. On July 27, 1957 he married Shirley A. Seyfried of Cortland, NY. He was employed by Agway Research, Ithaca, NY for 25 years, taking early retirement in 1992 due to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis which he suffered for 52 years. In retirement, Ace enjoyed the yearly camping trip to Fish Creek in the Adirondacks; the trip by motorhome to Alaska and then the western USA; the raising of rabbits and membership in TARBA where he helped with the yearly rabbit show; volunteering at the DTHS in Dryden; Dryden Senior Citizens; Varna Pinochle Club and playing cards and games with family and friends; enjoyment of his yard and home; following various sports, particularly Syracuse basketball; the stock market, and his current dog Maggie. Ace was a man of integrity, loyalty, and good work ethics. He is survived by ...... He was predeceased by his parents, his step-mother Alberta Dent Shackelton, his sister Mary (Jack) Slade, his Uncles Norman S. (Bernice) Moore and Erwin Moore, in-laws Andrew and Vera Seyfried. A memorial service will be held from 2 to 4 PM Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Christ Community Church, 292 Tompkins St., Cortland, NY with Rev. David Robinson officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Ithaca, NY at a later date.
