m. 3 May 1653, Timothy Dwight, and may have been b. in Eng.; Eliz. b. 10 June, bapt. 5 July 1641; Dorothy, 11, bapt. 16 July 1643; and Michael, b. 12, bapt. 19 Oct. 1645; beside Margaret, bapt. 14 Apr. 1648 a. 8 days old; was freem. 2 June 1641, rem. to Boston 1647, and, without ordin. taught in the new ch. bef. sett. of a min. there, or, indeed, bef. the gather. of a ch. wh. occur. 5 June of the yr. foll. when he was ord. a rul. elder, the governm. forbid. his bing min. for want of educat. had Margaret, bapt. 14 June 1649, 8 days old; and d. 28 Jan. 1673, or by gr.-st. wh. makes his age 67 yrs. 28 Dec. preced. Farmer strangely miscalls Increase Mather the first min. tho. he did, sub voce, Mayo, restore the honor to the proper man. Eliz. m. 23 Aug. 1659, Richard Hollingworth. Two of his more gifted successors, Ware and Robbins, have justly discussed the diffidence of this first instr. of their people.

Name:
The marriage of Michael and Abigail was very likely the one recorded at St. Margaret Pattens, London, on 5 May 1636.

Michael and his family immigrated to new England in 1639 and settled in Dedham, Massachusetts, before moving to Boston by 1649. He was installed as Ruling Elder of the Boston Second Church in 1655. Michael died in Boston on 28 December 1672, aged 67. The inventory of his estate was taken on 8 February 1672/3, and letters of administration were granted to "Abigail Powell his relict" on 20 March 1672/3. His widow died inBoston by 21 April 1677. her will, dated 14 march 1676/7 and proved 28 April 1677, left "to my foure daughters Abigail Howlett, Elizbeth Hollingsworth, Dorrothy Perry, and Margaret Howard," L50 each; "to Dorrothy Perry my daughter," a bed, blankets and pillows; "to Joseph Elliott the eldest Son of Deacon Jacob Ellott, L20; "to Timothy Dwaite eldest Son of Timothy Dwaite of Deadham," L20; "to Micheal Perry, " L5; "to Samuell Howlett," L5,; and appointed "my Two Sons in law Anthony Howard & Seth Perry" executors "to Sell & dispose of my house & land...for the discharge of the Legacies" and the remainder to be equally divided between "my foure daughters..Abigail Elizabeth Dorrathy & Margarett."

Michael married Abigail BEADLE on 1635 or 1636. Abigail (daughter of Samuel BEADLE and Abigail COLLINS) was born in England; was christened on 19 Mar 1608 in Wolverstone, Suffolk, England; died before 21 Apr 1677 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachustts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
