    Martens, Ruth 87 of Charlotte, died Saturday, August 06, 2005 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility. Mrs. Martens was born May 28, 1918 in Charlotte, the daughter of Wilbur and Laura (Deer) Martin. She was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, the St. Mary Altar Society and Bible Study group. Ruth was also active as a Reading Grandma for St. Mary School, a Hayes-Green Beach Hospital gift shop volunteer, and as a member of the GFWC Charlotte Woman's Club & book club and Altruistic Bridge Club. She belonged to the Lady of Lourdes Church & guild in Venice, Florida for ten years during the winter months. Ruth was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards every week at the Charlotte Country Club where she was an honorary member.

    She is survived by her daughters Mary Jean (Daryl) Baker of Charlotte, Patricia J. (Gene) Tidd of Eaton Rapids, Elizabeth "Jane" (Ronald) Davis of Sunfield, Nancy J. (John) Holton of Olivet, Charlene J. (Richard) Wagner of Grand Ledge and Margaret Ann Snyder of Shepherd; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law Evelyn Kelley of Battle Creek and Wilda Bust of Marinette Wisc. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charlie in 1993, son Michael John Martens in 1990 and by her brothers, Howard, Harold & Arlin Martin and sister, Agnes Cramer.

    The family will receive visitors from 3-5 and 7-9 PM Monday at the Pray Funeral Home. A Parish Rosary will be recited 7:00 PM Monday at Pray Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Denis R. Spitzley, and Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau concelebrating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary Church Building Fund or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
