    Captured a Southern Civil War flag but never received proper recognition for the act. Believed to be the only rebel flag captured by the North Atlantic Fleet.

Telescope; brass with painted leather cover over main barrel, single brass draw; sliding cover over eye piece; removable dust cover over objective with sliding aperture cover; optics produce erect image; painted in white on leather cover, black background, "Wm. N. Brady. U.S. Navy." [Brady served in the US Navy 1829-1865], painted below name are three rows of painted flags and pennants; "POWHATAN" scratched into leather.
