Ephraim Deming was a resident of Wethersfield during his life. He is probably that Ephraim who served in the Revolution in Capt. Wright's Company, Col Eames' reg. His daughter Mehitabel was born after his death. She lived to be 47 years old and at her death willed her property to her friends and hr sisters Mancy, and Clarissa, the latter being a half sister by her mothers second marriage to Elizur Deming. Nancy appears to have married the widower of her aunt Rebecca, although the latters grave stone records her death as in 1829, while the Wethersfield Church records show her husband's second marriage was in 1821. Ephraim and his wife were admitted to Wethersfield Church in 1774, and an infant child of his was buried in June 1776, unnamed.

Elisha Deming seems to have spent his life in Wethersfield, and his name appears frequently upon the land records of that town as a property owner. He inherited land from his uncle, Elisha Steele, which he afterwards willed to his children and grandchildren. His will of 5 Sep 1781 names his sons, Ephraim and Josiah, and his daughter Prudence, and the children (named Catling) of his daughter Anna. His son Josiah was a soldier of the Revolution who went in the sloop Ann from Wethersfield to join the forces at New York in 1776. Josiah's will in 1786 leaves his property to his sister, Prudence Buck, and the children of his brother Ephraim, and his sister Anna Catling, both deceased.

"Deming Genealogy": Josiah Deming was a man of weight and prominence in the affairs of the parish of Newington, and was their agent to intercede with the General Assembly in 1748 for compensation for the loss of their minister, Rev. Simon Backus. He was a member of the class of 1709 Yale College, was a student of theology, and preached, but was never ordained. In his will of 30 Jul 1761, he names all of his children except Zebulon, who may have been that Zebulon who settled in Canaan, and of whom no further record has been found beyond a few land transfers in Canaan as late as 1744. The parentage of his second wife has not been discovered. She survived her husband and had a dower interest in his estate as late as 1786.

Josiah married Prudence STEELE on 8 Dec 1714 in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut, USA. Prudence (daughter of Capt James STEELE and Ann WELLES) was born on 17 Jan 1693 in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut; died on 10 Jul 1752 in Newington, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

"Deming Genealogy": the birth-date of Ebenezer Deming has never been discovered. It is supposed that he was the youngest son of John Deming, and that he was born about 1659. In 1698 he received a deed of land in Wethersfield from his brother David Deming of Cambridge, and inherited from his father other land in the vicinity. In the record of his marriage the family name of his wife is obliterated, and it has not been discovered from any other source. In the distribution of his estate, his widow and all of his children including his two sons-in-law Talcott and Wright, are named.
