    WILLIAM STREET SWANN of Centre District, Wetzel Co., WV is a native of Ohio, born in Belmont County, August 14, 1841, a son of Frederick A and Sarah M. (Street) Swann.
    His wedded life began in Belmont County, Ohio, August 19, 1862,when Elizabeth Gates, born in that State and county, February 23, 1840, became his wife. She was a daughter of George and Barbara (Gillespie) Gates; her mother continues to reside in Belmont county,where her father died November 25, 1878. The father of William S. Swann died September 24, 1877.
    During the war of the States, the subject of this sketch was duty sergeant of Company F 52d Ohio Volunteer Infantry, serving three years, from August 22, 1862, until June 3, 1865.
    In Belmont county, September 1869, he was elected justice of the peace, served three years, was re-elected in 1872, and served another term of three years.
    In 1882 he made his residence in Wetzel county, engaging in farming in Centre district, and the seven children of his marriage are resident here, the oldest in home of her own, in Centre district and the others living with him.
