    Richard Neville 'the Kingmaker', Knt., Earl of Warwick juer uxoris, Earl of Salisbury (succeeding his other), son and heir, born 22 Nov 1428; after the recovery of King Henry VI from madness he became a staunch Yorkist and at the first battle of St. Albans on 22 May 1455 'had the good fortune to decide the day and win somewhat easily a military reputation'; defeated the Lancastrians at Northampton on 10 July 1460, and captured King Henry VI whom he brought to London; still in charge of the King in London when the Yorkists were defeated at the battle of Wakefield on 30 December (in which his father was taken prisoner, being beheaded the next day, when he succeeded to the great Neville estate of Middleham, co. York); on 17 Feb 1460/1 put to flight by the Lancastrians at the 2nd battle of St. Alans, and allowed King Henry VI to be recaptured, but having joined the young Duke of York, the entered London; one of the peers who declared the Duke to be King, as Edward IV; commanded the centre in the decisive Yorkist victory at Towton on 29 Mar 1461. The King's marriage, however, in May 1464, to Elizabeth Wydeville and the favour shown to the Queen's relatives alienated him; secretly planned his restoration to authority throughout 1468; allowed to cross to Calais early in 1469; joined by his brother George, Archbishop of York, and by the King's brother, the Duke of Clarence, to whom he there married Isabel, his eldest daughter and co-heiress presumptive; these three joined the Yorkshire insurgents; then suppressed the Lancastrian rising in the North; slain at Barnet on Easter Sunday 14 Apr 1471 s.p.m. buried Bisham Abbey, co.     Name:
    Richard De Beauchamp, Knt., K.B., K.G., 13th Earl of Warwick, Herediary Sheriff of Worcestshire and Chamberlain of the Exchequer, son and heir, was born at Salwarpe, co. Worcester on 25 or 28 Jan. 1381/2. He served in Wales against Owen Glendower, defeating him near Machynlleth, co. Montgomery, and capturing his banner, in 1402 (dated by the appearance of Halley's comet at the time.)

    He was present at the death-bed of King Henry V, 30-31 Aug. 1422, who made him an executor, and bequeathed to his care the education of his infant son, Henry VI.
    From 1 June 1428 till 19 May 1436 Richard de Beauchamp was Tutor and Governor to the young King, whom he bore to Westminster Abbey for his Coronation on 6 Nov. 1429. On 16 July 1437 he was appointed lieutenant of France and Normandy, the most serious responsibility of his life, remaining in France thereafter. "Richard Beauchamp therl of Warwyk" died testate (P.C.C., 19 Rous) aged fifty-seven at Rouen on 30 Apr. 1439, and was buried in St. Mary's, Warwick, being afterwards removed to the Lady Chapel, where is a superb monument to him.

    Ralph Neville, K.G., 4h Lord Neville of Raby, P.C., son and heir of John de Neville, 3rd Lord Neville of Raby, by Maud, daughter of Henry de Percy. Margaret Stafford was born before 164 (aged twenty-four at her father's death). They had nine children. She died on 9 June 1396, and was buried at Brancepeth, Durham. He took part in the Earl of Buckingham's expedition to Brittany, where he was knighted at St. Omer in July 1380. He succeeded his father on 17 Oct 1388, and was summoned to Parliament from 6 Dec 1389, by writs directed 'Radulpho de Nevyll de Raby'. From 1389 till 1424 he was continually employed on the Border in negotiating truces and peace with Scotland. He was married for the second time before 20 Feb 1397 to Joan Beaufort, widow of Robert Ferrers. She was born about 1379. He was created Earl of Westmorland on 29 Sep 1397. His near alliance to the House o Lancaster (being son-in-law of John of Gaunt), led him to forsake the King, and take a prominent part in the elevation of Henry of 'Bolingbroke' the exiled Duke of Lancaster, to the throne as King Henry IV. Ralph Neville, Earl of Westmorland, died testate at Raby Castle on 21 Oct. 1425, and was buried at Staindrop, Durham. His second wife, on whom the lordships of Middleham and Sheriff-Hutton, with other extensive lands, were between he and her sons on the one side, and the grandsons of her husband by his first wife on the other, which resulted in the elder branch espousing the cause of Lancaster, and Salisbury and his brothers, that of York.

    Thomas Montagu, Knt., K.B., Earl of Salisbury, Lord Montagu, son and heir, was born about 1388 (aged twelve at his father's death). He was married for the first time to Alianor De Holand. She was born in 1387, the fifth child and second daughter of that name, and was co-heiress of her brother Edmund Holand, Earl of Kent. She was living in 1413, and according to her husband's will, was buried at Bisham. He was summoned to Parliament as Earl of Salisbury on 26 Oct 1409. In consideration of his great services in the French War, he was restored in blood to the dignities held by his father on 2 May 1421, becoming thus Lord Montagu, etc. He received a grant of the Comte of Perche, and was appointed Lieut. General of Normandy.
