Rev. Joseph Morgan served in various Presbyterian churches in Connecticut, New York, and new jersey between 1697 and 1738, as well as the Dutch Reformed Church of Freehold and Middletown, New Jersey. In 1719 or 1720 he received an honorary degree from Yale College. On 8 July 1726 "Joseph Morgan of Freehold in New Jersey" was named in a document regarding his father's estate. On 11 July 1726 he made a deed as Joseph Morgan of Freehold, and on 29 May 1731 he made a deed as Joseph Morgan of Maidenhead in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. No New Jersey probate has been found for Joseph, Sarah, or any of their children.

James Morgan, the emigrant ancestor and progenitor of the Morgan family, was born in Wales in 1607. He m. Margery Hill of Roxbury, Mass., Aug. 6, 1640. He was made freeman there, May 10, 1645. Early in 1650 he had lands granted him in Pequot, now New London, as New London records show which was soon occupied by him as a homestead, 'on the path to New street or Cape Ann street,' as it was called in honor of the Cape Ann Company, who chiefly settled there. On the 25th day of December 1656, he sold his homestead and removed soon after, with several others, across the river, upon large tracts of land previously granted them by the town. The spot where he built his first house in Groton in 1657, and where he ever resided and died, is a few rods southeast of the dwelling of Elijah S. Morgan, about three miles from Groton ferry, on the road to Poquonock Bridge. He was nine times afterwards chosen member of the assembly, the last in 1670, and he was also an active and useful member of Re. Richard Blinman's church, as his name is prominent in every important movement or proceeding.

He also served in he early Colonial wars.

James married Margery HILLS on 6 Aug 1640. Margery was born in 16 Jun 1611 in Essex, England; died on 28 Apr 1690 in Wallingford, New Haven Co., Connecticut; was buried in Avery-Morgan Cemetery, Groton, New London Co., Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Thomas Parke, was born in Preston, England' came to America with his father in 1630, and removed with him to Wethersfield in 1639. There he married Dorothy Thompson, and there at least to of his children were born. About 1650 he removed to the Pequot Plantation, (New London) Conn., where he became a Deacon in the Church of which the Rev. Richard Blinman, (his brother-in-law, they having married sisters) was pastor. He resided in Pequot for about six years and then moved to Southertown, (Now Stonington,) where he became a Selectmen.

After residing in Mystic, within the bounds of Stonington for a number of years, he removed with his sonThomas Jr., to lands belonging to them in the northern part of New London, where in 1680 they were reckoned as inhabitants. In 1681 he was Collector of Taxes for New London. In October, 1686, he was one of the petitioners to the Legislature for the incorporation of the the town of Preston. The petition was also signed by three of his sons,Thomas Jr., Nathaniel and John. In 1698, he, together with his sons Robert and John and nine others, organized the First Church of Christ, of Preston, and he became its first Deacon.

He died July 30, 1709, after a long and well spent life. He must have been about ninety years of age, although the exact date of his birth has not been discovered. His will, dated Sept. 5, 1707, and recorded in new London, provided for his wife,Dorothy' for children John, nathaniel, William, Martha, Dorothy and Alice; for grandson Samuel, son of Thomas; and grandson James, son of Robert.

He married Dorothy Thompson, daughter of John and Alice Thompson, of Preston, England.

He and his family sailed from Cowes, Isle of Wight, for America, on board the "Arabella," with seventy-six passengers, March 29, 1630, and landed in Boston, Mass., June 17, 1630; making the voyage in seventy-eight days. He lived for a time at Roxbury, Mass.

In 1639 he went, with his son Thomas , through the wilderness to Wethersfield, Conn., with the first settlers there.

He resided at Wethersfield about ten years, and in 1649 removed to Pequot, (now New London,) Conn. He was a resident of the town plot of New London for about six years, and then removed to lands which he owned on the Mystic river.

In the first book of the town records of New London, the two Winthrops, John and Deane, are uniformly entitled "Mr." as also Jonathan Brewster and Robert Parke, when they appear in the records of the plantation; but all others are styled "Goodman," or mentioned by Christian and surname, without any prefix.

When Mr. Blinman, (the first minister of the Gospel who preached regularly in New London), came in 1650, there was no meeting house. During the first years of his ministry he preached in the barn meeting house which stood on the corner of Hempstead and 'granite streets. It belonged to Mr. Robert Parke.

August 29, 1651, the following vote of the town is recorded: "for Mr. Parke's barne the towne doe agree for the use of it until midsummer next to give him a day's work a peace for a meeting house, to be by the Saboth come a moneth." In 1652 Mr. Parke sold his house lot to Mr. William Rogers, of Boston.

He was elected a Freeman of the colony in April, 1640, a Representative or Deputy to the General Court, September 1641, and again in August, 1642. He was a Selectman in 1651, and again a Representative in 1652. In 1658 he as a Selectman of Southerntown, (afterwards named Mystic and now known as Stonington,) Conn.

Robert married Martha CHAPLYN in 1601. Martha was born on 04 Feb 1583/4 in Semer, Suffolk, England; died before 1630 in Roxbury, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Robert Parke married 1st, Martha, a daughter of Capt. Robert and Elizabeth Ansty) Chaplin, of Bury, England. Her father gave her portion of L300. It is probable that she died in England before the family came to this Country, as no mention has been found of her here.

John Thompson, in the year 1626, was living at 'Little Preston,' in the Parish of Preston Capes, Northamptonshire, England, with his wife Alice, and children. On the sixth day of November in that year, 1626, John Thompson made his will, signing his name to that form; both forms of spelling, with and without the 'h' are, however, used indiscriminately in the body of the will and on the parish register. When the eleventh of April 1627, came around, John Thompson was dead, and at that date his will was probated in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Alice was probable the second wife of John Thompson. The son Thomas, who is mentioned in his will, was, doubtless, a child of the first wife, and the eldest son, by reason of a better inheritance than the others received. Thomas probably remained in England . We do not know what date the widow with her children came to America, but previous to 1640 she was living at Roxbury, Mass. Probably it was there that the daughter Mary was m. to Rev. Ricard Blinman of Gloucester, Mass. The Tompson family in their English home held position, their social status being next to that of the county families. Mistress Alice must have been a lady of character and refinement. Her success in bringing her children through all their troubles and so well preparing them for the duties of life which they assumed, testifies to this. She m. 2d Robert Park.

John married Alice FREEMAN about 1613. Alice (daughter of Henry FREEMAN and Margaret EDWARDS) was born in 1595 in Preston, England; died after 24 Dec 1658 in Mystic, New London Co., Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Alice Freeman was born say 1595. She married, first say 1613, JOHN TOMPSON of Little Preston (a village in the parish of Preston Capes), Northamptonshire, who had an earlier wife with whom he had at least one child, a son John born 1 October 1611. John andAlice purchased half of the lands and manor of Saxby in Leicestershire on 1 April 1616. John died between 7n November 1626, the date of his codicil, and 17 December 1626, the date of baptism of his youngest child. Alice and at least two of her daughters emigrated to New England.She was living in Roxbury, Massachusetts, by 2 April 1640, when a complaint was drawn up against "Alice Tompson widdow." She married, second, between 30 May 1644 (when the Massachusetts House of Deputies granted permission) and 28 October 1644 (when Gov. Wyllys of Connecticut mentioned in a letter to his son in England that "Mr. Parke of Weathersfield...married my Cosin Tompson & his sonne Thomas hath married hir Daughter Dorothy Tompson") Robert Parke, as his second wife, son of Robert and Alice (Chaplin) Parke. They moved to New London, Connecticut, by 1651. Alice died after 24 December 1658, probably at New London or Stonington, Connecticut, when she was a witness to a deed. Robert Parke was of Mystic (Stonington), Connecticut, when he made his will on 14 May 1660, in which he named only sons from his first marriage. He died on 4 February 1664/5.
