Excerpt from Blood Royal: The marriage was celebrated despite the fact that Eleanor had taken vows of chastity, witnessed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and wore the ring that united her to "the mystic bridegroom,Jesus Christ." Her husband, Simon de Montfort, "hastened to Rome in order to regularize his marriage" and the couple received assurances that "there was no obstacle to the validity" of the marriage.
