Notes from "Connectictu Genealogy": Samuel was in Farminton 1673, removed to Waterbury where he was one of th4e original ettles about 1677. He was one of the assinees of the first Indian deeds and is named in all fence divisions and properties lists.
Inventory, 28 Feb 1694/1695, taken by Tmothy Stanley, John Hopkins, and Thomas Judd; children ages: Samuel 26, William 22, Thomas 20, Joseph 17, Stephen 11, Benjamin 9, Ebenezer 2, Hannah 24, Mary 14, Elizabeth 12, and Mercy 6.

Name:
Samuel Hickox, proprietor, with twenty-five men, all of Farmington, sent a petition to the General Court of Hartford on October 9, 1673, asking that Mattatuck (Waterbury) be made a plantation. On May 31, 1680, he and John Welton were made the selectmen of the new settlement. He was one of the assignees of the first Indian deed. He was appointed sergeant when the first train-band was organized. "Connecticut Probate Records" show that on June 21, 1681, Samuel Hickox, as the husband of hannah Upson, "discharged Father Scott on account of Father Upson's estate."

He was in Farmington 1673, removed to Waterbury where he was one of original settlers about 1677. She admitted to full communion of Church of Farmington 1 March 1679/80. He was one of the assignees of the first Indian deeds and is named in all Fence divisions and proprietors lists. "So far as appeared he never once halted in the the work he had undertaken"; called Sergeant in 1686, Townsman 1682. "He was one of the leading men of the settlement and died at his post, at a critical time when men of the right stamp could be poorly spared."...



Samuel was in Farmington, CT in 1673, removed to Waterbury CT, where he was one of the original settlers about 1677. He admitted to full communion of the Church of Farmington, 1 Mar 1679/80. He was one of the assignees of the first Indian deeds.

Samuel's parents William Hickox who was born on 10 Dec 1609 in Stratford On Avon, Warwickshire, England and died before 1645 in Farmington, Hartford, CT. William married Elizabeth Cole in 1631 in Stratford On Avon England. Elizabeth was born in 1612 in Stratford On Avon, Warwickshire, England. She died on 3 Aug 1655 in Farmington, CT. They immigrated 11 Aug 1635, leaving London on the ship the Batchelor.

Samuel married Hannah UPSON about 1667. Hannah was born about 1648; died in 1704. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

2. Elizabeth HICKOCK was born in 1682; was christened on 12 Nov 1682.
3. Deacon Benjamin HICKOK was born about 1686; died on 17 Nov 1745 in Wilton, Fairfield Co., Connecticut.
4. Mercy HICKOCK was born on 08 Apr 1689 in Farmington, Hartford Co., Connecticut; died on 06 Sep 1729 in New Canaan, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA.
5. Ebenezer HICKOK was born about 1692; died on 08 Jul 1774 in Bethel, Fairfield Co., Connecticut; was buried in Congregational Church Cemetery, Bethel, Fairfield Co., Connecticut.

Note from "History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield": this "Hickock" is NOT the Mr. William Hickock who had a lot in the original New Haven division of land, but who apparently never came over and was living in London at a considerably later date.
