    Thomas De Mowbray, Int., K.G., 6th Lord Mowbray, younger son, was born on 22 Mar 1365/6, and was brother and heir of John De Mowbray. He was created Earl of Nottingham on 12 Feb 1382/3, Earl Marshal on 30 June 1385, and Duke of Norfolk on 29 Sep 1397. He was married for the first time to Elizabeth Strange, Baroness Strange of Blackmere 'suo jure', daughter and heiress of John Strange, Lord Strange of Blackmere. She died in her tenth year on 23 Aug 1383 s.p. He married for the second tie at Arundel Castle in the presence of the King and Queen in July 1384 to Elizabeth Fitz Alan, widow of William Montagu, styled Lord Montagu. She was born in 1375. He served under his father-in-law in the naval victory over the French, Spanish and Flemish fleets off Margate on 24 Mar 1386/7. On his return from the Holy Land Thomas De Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk, died of the pestilence at Venice, Italy, on 22 Sep 1399, and was buried in the abbey of St. George there.

    John De Mowbray, Knt., 4th Lord Mowbray of Axholme, co. Lincoln, son and heir, was born at Epworth on 25 June 1340. He was knighted in July 1335 when the King was with his fleet in the Downs on his way to an invasion of France. Next year he served in the Brittany campaign. He was summoned to parliament from 14 Aug 1362. "John de Mowbray, knt., lord of Axiholm", died testate, being slain by the Turks in Thrace near Constantinople on 9 Oct 1368.

    Richard Fitz Alan distinguished himself in the French wars, and 'won a brilliant naval victory over the French, Spanish and Flemish fleets off Margate in 1387'. Later with the Duke of Gloucester he later took an active part in the opposition to King Richard, becoming one of the five Lords Appellant in the Parliament of 1388. Richard Fitz Alan, Earl of Arundel, obtained a pardon in 1394, but was treacherously seized, tried at Westminster, and beheaded at Cheapside on 21 Sep 1397, buried at Austin Friars', in Bread Street, London, and having been attainted, all his honours were forfeited.

York, 2nd Lord Mowbray, by Alice, daughter and co-heiress of William de Brewes, Knt., Baron of Bramber, Sussex, lord of Gower in Wales. He was born at Hovingham, co. York, on 29 Nov 1310. He was imprisoned in the Tower with his mother on 26 Feb 1321/2. On the accession of King Edward III, his father's attainer was reversed, and he had livery of all his lands except the Isle of Axholme. He was summoned to parliament from 10 Dec 1327. He was Governor of Berwick-on-Tweed 15 apr 1340, and served in the Scots and French wars. He was one of the Commanders of the English Army at the Battle of the Border till his death.

She was married in the King's Chapel at Havering-atte-Bower on 9 Feb 1320/1, she being about eight years of age, to Richard Fitz Alan (Copped Hat), 3rd Earl of Arundel and 4th Earl of Surrey, son and heir of Edmund Fitz Alan, 8th Earl of Arundel, Baron of Oswestry, co. Salop, Baron of Clun, co. Salop, by Alice, daughter of William de Warenne. He was born about 1313, and was about seven years of age at time of marriage. In 1330-1 he was fully restored in blood and honours and obtained restitution of the Castle and honour of Arundel, becoming Earl of Arundel. Their marriage was annulled by Papal mandate on 4 Dec 1344 on the ground of his minority and of his never having willingly consented to the match. He took a distinguished part the wars with France, was Admiral of the West 1340-41 and 1345-47, commanded the second division at the Battle of Crecy, and was at the fall of Calais in 1347.

    He assisted King Edward III in the seizure of the Earl of March in 1330, and from that time was one of the King's most active councillors. He was created EARL OF NORTHAMPTON on 16 Mar 1336/7. On 24 June 1340 he took a leading part in the King's victory at Sluys, and was with him at the siege of Tournay. He fought at Crecy on 26 Aug 1346, and participated in the siege of Calais. In later years he frequently had licenses to export wool, both as a means of recouping his expenses and on the King's behalf.
