He graduated 1687 from Harvard College and received a call 14 Sep 1687 from the church at Salem, which he declined in October. He was ordained minister 3 May 1699 of the First Church at Portsmouth. He succeeded the first minister of Portsmouth, Rev. Joshua Moody who d. 7 Jul 1697. He had eight children "but the last four names are obt. from his will of 22 Dec 1724, which mentioned all the seven.
