William was his father's heir and ancestor of "many noble earls of that family". It has been reported that William, Isabel's 2nd husband, carried her off while Robert was still living, though she was the mother of 8 children.

William de Warren, who accompanied the Conqueror to England, was the recipient of bounteous favors at his hands.

Some historians believe that Gundred to be the daughter of William the Conqueror and his wife Matilda of Flanders, though not certain. Gundred's tomb was discovered at a later time in Isfield Church, Sussex, where it had been moved on the dissolution of the monasteries in the late 1530's. Gundred died in childbed.
