4. | John CHASE was born on 02 Nov 1655 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts, USA (son of Aquila CHASE and Anne WHEELER); died on 26 Feb 1739/40 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts, USA. Notes:
Excerpt from "Seven Gen. of the Descendants os Aguila and Thomas Chase": He was a soldier in King Philip's War under Capt. William Turner and was in the "Falls Fight" (at Turner's Falls) May 19 1676 and was one to help bury the brave commander there as he himself certified. (Bodge's Soldiers in King Philip's War, 251). In Jan. 1701/2 he petitioned for a grand of land for this service. (Currier, History of Newbury, 1902, p. 511). At the age of 23 in 1678, he took the oath of allegiance in Newbury. He was a cooper by trade and in 1688 paid a tax on one head, two horses, and one cow.
John Chase of Newbury made his will 22 Oct 1730, which was proved 17 Nov. 1739. Inventory taken 24 Nov. 1740 by Sam'l March, John Carr & Joshua Bayley, mentions an old Bible and personal estate amounting to $65.36.
John married Elizabeth BINGLEY on 23 May 1677 in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts. Elizabeth (daughter of William BINGLEY and Elizabeth PRESTON) was born on 24 Jun 1660 in Salisbury, Massachusetts; died about 1685. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
