He was baptized in 1706, and in Baptist Church list at Westerly in 1718 and 1740. 1718, February 27, Thomas Clarke and Elizabeth, his wife, deeded to Capt. Samuel Babcock, land at Westerly R.I., recorded 1718, February 27. 1718, March 23, thomas Clarke, of Westerly, gave a deed of Stonington land, recorded at Stonington, Conn., 1718, March 23. he was ordained Deacon of Church 26 August, 1735. 1740, February 17, he deeded to son Thomas Clarke "100 acres of land in the town of Westerly on ye North end of my farm I now live in, bounded"***"which land was given to me by my honored father, Mr. Joseph Clarke, deceased." He was chosen Assistant Elder 2nd October, 1750. He, by deed dated 25 January, 1765, conveyed to son Joseph Clarke certain land at Westerly. The deed was witnessed by Joshua, Jr., and Hannah Clarke. 1768, will of Elder Thomas Clarke, of Westerly, dated 1766, August 10; proved 1768, January 25; recorded 1768 January 25, at Westerly; mentions granddaughter Mary, wife of Peleg Saunders; son Joshua, son Joseph and daughter Sarah Burdick, wife of Edward Burdick.

Thomas married Elizabeth BABCOCK in 1710. Elizabeth was born on 18 Feb 1691 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island ; was buried in First Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton, Washington Co., Rhode Island. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

1. Rev Joshua CLARKE was born on 26 Apr 1717 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island ; died on 8 Mar 1793 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island; was buried in First Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton, Washington Co., Rhode Island.
2. Joseph CLARKE was born on 14 Sep 1728; died on 6 May 1795 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island.

He must have removed from Newport to Westerly early in life, for in 1669 he became Town Clerk of Westerly, retaining the position until 1700. In July, 1625 (?) he and his family went to Newport for fear of the Indian War then raging, and remained in the home of rev. Samuel Hubbard until the war closed. In 1680, he having been taken from his house in Westerly, situated two miles east of Pawcatuck River, was carried by force to Hartford, Conn., and fined L10, by authorities of that colony. He was however, reimbursed by Rhode Island Assembly, in sum of L13 10s., for this compulsory payment. On 20 May 1696, Benedict Arnold, of Newport, deeded Joseph Clarke, of Westerly, 200 acres of land at South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Recorded 22 Dec 1707, at South Kingstown.

On 30 November, 1696,Joseph Clarke, of Westerly, deeded John Seagar 100 acres of land at South Kingstown. Recorded at South Kingstown 22 December, 1707.
He was Deputy to the General Assembly in years 1698. 1700-2-4-6-8.
In 1710 Joseph Clarke and Joseph Clarke Jr., were invited by Sabbatarian Church at Westerly, Rhode Island.

On 20 July 1715, Joseph Clarke, of Westerly, deeded to his son Samuel Clarke, "a tract of land, situate at Westerly, of 6 acres bounded East by a highway, North by a highway, West by a highway and South by land formerly of Edward Richmond."

Joseph married Bethia HUBBARD on 16 Nov 1664 in Newport, Rhode Island. Bethia (daughter of Samuel HUBBARD and Tacy COOPER) was born on 19 Dec 1646 in Springfield, Massachusetts; died on 17 Apr 1707 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
