Family records show he was born in 1802 in New York.
Also he and his wife Laura and 8 children are listed in census records of Tallmadge, Summitt County, Ohio. That shows him born abt. 1802 in New York.

Recently I found a death notice for Hiram Root in the November 19, 1858 issue of the Cleveland Daily Leader. It states "Died, In Franklin Mills, Ohio, Nov. 5th, Mr. Hiram Root, aged 56 years." This confirms a death date of Nov. 5, 1858 that I have found for Hiram at other sources.

Hiram?s birth date is May 15, 1801. The source is a letter written by his nephew, stating birth and death dates all members of this Root family. He was born at Chazy, Clinton, NY.

I know that the 1801 birth year means he was 57 at his death. I am inclined to think he was age 57, but reported in the paper as 56.

Hiram Root is my gr-gr-gr-grandfather

Name:
The first Pathmaster of District 8 was GEORGE ROOT who settled in Chazy in 1800. He was an excellent fifer. His wife was Caroline, a daughter of Elisha Ransom. By 1829 he was living near Malone with his sons Hiram and Ransom Root. ELIJAH and SILAS ROOT were here in 1802, but nothing more is known of them.

George married Caroline RANSOM on 25 Dec 1809 in East-town, NY. Caroline (daughter of Elisha RANSOM and Irena WELLS) was born on 10 Sep 1779 in Shelburne Falls, Franklin, Massachusetts, USA; died on 7 Jun 1850 in Kent, Portage Co., Ohio; was buried in Stow Street Cemetery, Kent, Portage Co., Ohio.
