  1. 1.  Edward HASTINGS, Knt. was born on 21 May 1382 in Fenwick (son of Hugh HASTINGS, Knt. and Anne LE DESPENSER); died on 6 Jan 1437/8.

    He was committed to the tower on 11 July 1403. the right to bear the undifferenced Arms of Hastings was decided against him in the Court of Chivalry on 9 May 1410, and in favour of his opponent Reynold, Lord Grey of Ruthin, heir to the sister of the whole blood, in preference to his own claim as heir to the brother of the half-blood, of John, Lord Hastinges, ancestor of the Earls of Pembroke. On refusing to pay the costs of his suit of appeal (lest he should thereby acknowledge its Justice), he was imprisoned (about 1417) in the Marshalsea apparently till his death.

    Name:
    Hugh Hastings, Knt., of Elsing, Norfolk, and Norton, co. York, son and heir of Hugh Hastings, Knt. by his wife Margaret. On 16 June 1386 he gave evidence in the Scrope and Grosvenor controversy. Sir Hugh Hastings died on an expedition to Spain with the Duke of Lancaster on 6 Nov. 1386.

    Hugh married Anne LE DESPENSER before 1 Nov 1376. Anne (daughter of Sir Edward LE DESPENSER, K.G. and Elizabeth BURGHERSH) died in 30 or 31 Oct 1426. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
