Elizabeth married Rev Dr. Moses MATHER on 1 Jan 1756. Moses (son of Capt. Timothy MATHER and Sarah NOYES) was born on 23 Feb 1719 in Lyme, New London Co., Connecticut; died on 21 Sep 1806 in Darien, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Name:
Joseph Whiting was a petitioner to the "Five Mile River" petition dated the second Thursday of October 1736. This petition was for the creation of a new religious society separating itself from the one in Stamford. This new society eventually became Middlesex Parish and in 1820 the town of Darien, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

He was active in the Middlesex Society's affairs and was one of a committee appointed on 20 April 1741 to "treat" with Mr. David Hudson at Stratford to come and preach for Middlesex on probation.

Joseph Whiting's first wife, Abigail, was buried in the Noroton River Cemetery and her gravestone is located just left of his. Joseph and later, Hannah, also were buried there. Joseph and Hannah's gravestones are quite ornately engaved. Their gravestones read,

Hannah Whiting became a member of the Darien Congregational Church on 25 September 1757 shortly after the death of her husband.

When Joseph died, Dorothy and Charles were still minors. The Stamford Probate Court appointed Jacob Waring as guardian on December 28, 1757.

Joseph married Abigail HOLLY on 21 Apr 1720 in Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA. Abigail (daughter of Elisha HOLLY and Martha HOLMES) was born on 08 Jun 1700 in Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA; died on 02 May 1733 in Stamford, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
