"Whitney Genealogy": 'The Owego Times', of 11 Ap 1867, said: "He was supervisor of the town of Owego several times, and in all public official positions, discharged his duties to the entire acceptance of the public. He was appointed, in 1862, to a clerkship in the Comptroller's office in Albany, a position for which he was eminently qualified; and there he labored, as few could or would labor. It is acknowledged by all that his application to business and extra duty faithfully done, were the cause of his illness and subsequent death. For nine months before his death he was confined to his room, and suffered severely; yet his confidence in an early-sought and long-trusted Redeemer never wavered"
