Amos held land in Bozrah and probably settled there, or in Colchester, Conn. He was one of the original grantees of Canaan, New Hampshire, having lands on the South road. He later removed to Leyden, Mass., where some of his children were born and where he spent his remaining days.

Elizabeth was a descendant of William Brewster of the Mayflower, who relinquished a fortune and a high social position in England to sail with the Pilgrims to the New World. William was the presiding elder on the famous ship and, it was in its cabin that he drafted the first written constitution for self-government, and was the fourth signer of the compact.
