- Dovie L. Griggs, 96, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with Guy Walker, a grandson and pastor of Barn Church in Hereford, and Chad Horton, Bivins Nursing Home chaplain, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St.
Mrs. Griggs was born Feb. 16, 1908, in Milo, Okla., to Thomas and Leola McBroom. She moved with her family from Oklahoma to Summerfield in a covered wagon when she was 6. She married Sam Griggs on Aug. 31, 1926. She was a charter member of Southlawn Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 2, 1966; a son, Leon Griggs in 1980; four brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include a son, Samuel Leslie and wife, Ursula, of Amarillo; a daughter, Mary Beth Walker and husband, Kenneth E., of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Guy Walker and wife, Carol, and Clay Walker, all of Hereford, Tim Walker of Falls Church, Va., Amy Schachmann and husband, Ruben, of Ringwood, N.J., and Lisa Stapleton and husband, Mark, of Albuquerque, N.M.; three great-grandchildren, Zach, Amanda and Rodney; a great-great- grandson, Dylan; a brother, Boot McBroom and wife, Mary; three sisters-in-law, Callie Bellamy, Idena McBroom and Lucille Carver; and a brother-in-law, Allen Griggs and wife, Mickey.
The family suggests memorials be to Odyssey Healthcare, 1000 S. Jefferson St., Amarillo, TX 79101 or to Southlawn Baptist Church, 4306 S. Washington St., Amarillo, TX 79110.
