SLAWSON'S GARAGE HAS RECORD HERE
Founded by R.L. Slawson in 1920; Three well known cars are promoted.
Slawson and Sons Garage, 1208 West State Street, began business in the rear of the home of R.L. Slawson, president, which was then at the property next to the southeast corner of South Fourth Street. The small garage in the rear provided room for the new car while it was being serviced for the first sale which was made in 1920.
Today the business is conducted with the aid of twenty employees. The company is housed in two buildings which occupy an extensive plot of ground on West State Street. The show room fronting on the street is capable of displaying fourteen cars as well as affording amply room for the offices, salesmen's rooms and quarters for the bookkeeping staff.
In the building in the rear, eleven mechanics are employed to service three lines of automobiles, reconditioning cars traded-in and making adjustments to insure satisfaction from every motorist when the car leaves the shop. The efficiency and capacity of the plant and showrooms, which were built and occupied in 1928, are sufficient to meet today's requirements and are a tribute to the executive personnel of the company for its excellent long time planning.
R. L. Slawson has been assisted in the business by his two sons almost since the beginning of the company, and many of the other employees have records of service that number many years. Mr. Slawson, Sr., is president; Howard L. Slawson, vice-president and charge of service; harry R. Slawson, vice-president and charge of sales. Alfred Holford, who has occupied the position of accountant for the last eleven years, is secretary. Miss Lysbeth Lish has been with the company for more than seven years in the capacity of bookkeeper.
Three of the most attractive lines are sold by Slawson and Sons - the Packard, the Hudson-Terraphane and the Auburn. Harry R. Slawson has been the guest of the Packard officials and was four times winner of an annual honor bestowed by Packard on 125 leaders among 20,000 Packard salesmen. In the test made in the Hudson-Terraphane line, Harry Slawson also participated - this was on the ruggedness run of 1934, when a year's mileage was put on the car in two weeks time.
